Formation

In the early days of the Jesus movement, before it was even called “Christianity”, new members would spend as many as 3 years in formation before baptism and confirmation. The Followers of the Way, as they were called then, took spiritual formation, spiritual practice, and spiritual growth very seriously. They were a counter-cultural group living by radically different rules than the earthly kingdoms persecuting them. It was imperative for them to engage in deep spiritual formation in order to persevere in bringing the Kingdom of Heaven Jesus shared into the deeply broken world around them.

Today, we face a world no less broken. The world is in desperate need of the loving-kindness, forgiveness, justice and mercy of the Kingdom of Heaven. And so, as disciples of Christ, we take formation seriously. We believe it to be fundamental to the interior life of any Christian. Indeed, it is a deep commitment to peace, justice and spiritual maturity that unites ALL the great religious traditions of this world.

Browse below to see our formation videos. Included are “Formation Friday” videos (short reflections from our Minister of Formation Scott Coulter), reflections from Father Boyd, longer videos of formation series we have offered, and more. We welcome you into the deep mysteries of the Way of Love with open arms and open hearts. And if you are inspired to deeper questioning by what you see, we invite you to come to a service sometime. We are a congregation that honors the mystery - your faith and your doubt are welcome in our church anytime. Amen.
