In the early days of the Jesus movement, before it was even called “Christianity”, new members would spend as many as 3 years in formation before baptism and confirmation. The Followers of the Way, as they were called then, took spiritual formation, spiritual practice, and spiritual growth very seriously. As a counter-cultural group living by a radically different set of rules than the earthly kingdoms persecuting them, it was of utmost importance to have a develop deep, abiding and solid spiritual formation to persevere in bringing the Kingdom of Heaven Jesus shared into the deeply broken world around them.

Today, we face a world no less broken, no less in need of the loving-kindness, forgiveness, justice and mercy of the Kingdom of Heaven. We take formation quite seriously, believing it to be absolutely fundamental to the interior life of any Christian. Indeed, it is a deep commitment to peace, justice and spiritual maturity that unites ALL the great religious traditions of this world.
