2026 Lenten Offerings
The penitential season of Lent is devoted to looking inward, coming to terms with the fullness of who we are. This involves recognizing our own shortcomings, seeing where we have “missed the mark” and resisted the path God has laid before us. In this season of Lent, we examine ourselves not to invite a condemning voice of judgment from above, but to open ourselves to the loving, sometimes quiet invitation of God, who stands ready to guide us into a more loving, more compassionate, more centered inner space.
As with everything offer at St. Andrew’s, ALL are welcome to join in any of these Lenten spiritual practices.
Opportunities for deepening spiritual practice
Ignatian Examen - Wednesdays at 8pm, February 25th to March 25th
Join us via Zoom (find the Zoom link here) for this simple weekly prayer. Developed by St. Ignatius, the Examen is a 15-minute prayer in which we ground ourselves in our relationship to God and look back over our day, our week, or a particular question. We notice where we were working in harmony with God, and where we were pushing away from God’s guiding presence. Over time, the Examen helps us cultivate a more finely-tuned awareness, allow us to spend spend more time walking with God, and less time pushing our own agenda (which, if scripture has any truth to it, seldom works out well!).
Stations of the Cross - Fridays at noon, February 27th to March 27th
Each Friday at noon, we walk through the Stations of the Cross, pausing for prayer at each one. Lasting about 25-30 minutes, the Stations of the Cross help us recall the sacrifice Christ made for us. We move through the crucifixion with Him, offering our witness and solidarity so that we might honor His gift to us, and embody His sacrificial Love within ourselves. And if you would be interested in leading one of these Services, please contact our office here. There is no prior preparation required and all materials will be printed and ready for you to follow.
Rite of Reconciliation - March 20th, times to be scheduled with Rector
The Rite of Reconciliation is the Episcopal practice of individual confession with a priest. Though this practice is not typically a regular part of our spiritual life together, it is a wonderful practice. And of course, it is particularly well suited to the season of Lent. To learn more about this Episcopal practice, click here. And if you would like to schedule a time to meet with our Rector, Father Boyd Evans, you can email him here.
Formation and Bible Study
Bible Study - Sundays at 12:15pm, March 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th and April 12th
Join us for weekly Bible study right after coffee hour. During Lent, we will explore the opening chapters of Genesis. Through only about 22 chapters, the opening of Genesis gives us some of the most essential theological ideas in Judaism and Christianity. Ideas about the fundamental nature of our universe, our relationship to God, the nature of sin and the core nature of humanity are all found in these remarkable passages of sacred scripture. No prior reading is necessary (other than reading through Genesis, of course) and all are welcome.
“Let’s Keep Talking” - Thursdays at 6:45pm, March 12th, 19th and 26th
Join the social justice ministry for this 3-part series. They will lead you through a series of video presentation from leading Christian voices on how to keep dialogue open in these divided times. Each session will begin with a simple meal, followed by a video presentation and facilitated conversation. For more information on this series, contact Sue Torfin here.
